The community is invited to register for July activities and classes offered by the University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

OLLI’s “Summer Selections” takes place July 7-31 in Dover, Lewes, Wilmington and online, covering topics from nature and culture to history, cooking and exercise.

OLLI is a learning cooperative for adults 50 and over to take and teach classes together with no grades or exams. Summer classes provide an opportunity for new and returning participants to become acquainted with OLLI offerings in an abbreviated session.

Examples of Summer Selections courses and activities include:

  • Delaware field trips — Fort Delaware and Pea Patch Island, Johnson Victrola Museum, Dover Motor Speedway, First State Heritage Park
  • Kent County classes — Raising the Flag at Iwo Jima; Herman Melville’s Bartleby, the Scrivener
  • New Castle County classes — Food and Wine Tasting; Family History Writing; BBQ: America’s Cuisine; Swedish Death Cleaning; Yoga; West Side Story; European Radicalism and Fascism
  • Sussex County classes — Lewes History Walks, Evolution of Comedy, Basic Conversational Russian, Robert Frost Poetry, Argentine Tango, Tai Chi, History of Medicine, Coastal Concerts
  • Online classes — S.S. United States Ocean Liner; Memoir Writing; Songs of America; Spirituality of Jesus and Eckhart Tolle; Preparing and Selling Your Home for Maximum Profit, Historical Novels in Cultures

Delaware residence or prior OLLI membership is not required, and the usual 50-plus age guideline is waived for adults of any age to participate in OLLI summer classes. Unlimited session participation for the four-week program is $125, and partial scholarships are available. Some courses and special events may require additional fees, which are listed in the activity description.
