Explore South Asia — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal — through five stories that still shape public life: caste; religion and communal conflict; the Mughal Empire, which ruled much of the subcontinent before British power; British colonial rule; and the struggle for independence, Partition, and democracy. No background required.

INSTRUCTOR: Rounak Bose

BOSE, ROUNAK — Ph.D. student in history at the University of Delaware whose research explores the historical categories of caste, religion, law, empire and sovereignty in South Asia and the larger Indian Ocean world. He was previously trained in sociology/anthropology in India, and he is also curious about interdisciplinary questions that concern political economy, literary studies and digital humanities. He grew up in Calcutta, India, and moved to the United States in 2024.
