An exploration of a medieval holiday with roots in antiquity that surfaces today in a variety of forms from New Year’s Eve celebrations to Carnivals and Halloween’s tricks for treats. When Harvey Cox, the Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard University, examined the role of the Feast of Fools in 1969, he defined the festivity found there as a capacity for joy-filled celebrations which included the component of fantasy as a vehicle for imagining a different world.

This offering meets for a total of 5 session(s).
