This is a hybrid course. One section meets on site at the location listed; and one section meets online only.

Long debated, it was during the Civil War that the federal congress approved the letting of contracts to undertake this momentous construction enterprise. The transcontinental railroad would link east and west, and at the time would be the world’s largest infrastructure construction project. Construction began as the Civil War ended, and was completed in 1869. Built in a rush, the government paid by miles lain. It is story of courage, daring, great risks and overcoming significant engineering challenges.
