Tudor England, 1485-1603, saw the evolution of England from a medieval kingdom to a modern nation state. Emphasis is be on political, religious and social developments. Topics include the lives of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, the English Reformation, the English relationship with the countries of the Celtic fringe and the rise of parliamentary authority. Lastly, the agricultural and commercial revolutions, which transformed Britain into a world power by the end of the 17th century, will be discussed.

PATTERSON, JAMES — B.A., history, SUNY Oswego; M.A., history, C.W. Post (Long Island University); Ph.D., history, Fordham University. Fulbright scholar to Ireland; author of In the Wake of the Great Rebellion. Research fellowship: Moore Institute, University of Galway, Ireland. Professor emeritus of history. Enjoys reading, writing, walking, and time with family and friends.
