We read Bartleby, the Scrivener, the short story by Herman Melville. We read and discuss the use of allegory and symbolism to reveal Melville’s view on the effects of industrialization and capitalism on modern American life.

INSTRUCTOR: Robert Heifetz
HEIFETZ, ROBERT — B.A., English/ education and M.A., Queens College. Taught high school English in New York for five years, in Connecticut for 25 years, American literature honors program for over 20 years and English electives such as creative writing. Participated in numerous poetry and book groups and taught the Bible as literature to church and synagogue groups. (H334)
