This is a hybrid course. One section meets on site at the location listed; and one section meets online only.

Climate change may ultimately prove to be the biggest challenge that humanity will face in the 21st century. This course examines the phenomenon of climate change and its interconnection to numerous topics including public health, ocean health, cultural heritage, indigenous science and more. The primary objective of this course is to expand student knowledge and leave participants with a greater sense of empowerment upon completion of the course. This course is designed to be highly inclusive; students from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to participate.

INSTRUCTOR: Bernd Geels

GEELS, BERND C. — A researcher, storyteller and artist, Bernd has worked in both the U.S. public and private sectors, and is a particular fan of the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary System. His professional purpose is to educate, inspire, and encourage individuals to contribute their skills to the realization of a more sustainable future. Favorite influencers and mentors are researchers, artists, scholars, musicians and actors.
