This is a hybrid course. One section meets on site at the location listed; and one section meets online only.

Privateering was legal, lucrative, dangerous, patriotic and essential to our quest for sovereign liberty. When Britain ruled the seas, the 13 original colonies had no real naval force. By 1776 the colonies had 27 warships while the British had some 270 warships. Privateering was a key component of success at sea in the Revolutionary War and was employed again in 1812. Attacks by American privateers on British shipping were the most damaging aspect of the naval war.
