A continuing class exploring how the Apostolic Fathers ensured leadership continuity in the early Christian church. This semester we start with an overview of Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch and Polycarp of Smyrna, then discuss the teachings of Tertullian and Papias and the doctrines of the Didache and the Nicene Creed. We delve into a written exchange between Pliny the Younger and Emperor Trajan, pore over the eloquent Epistle to Diognetus and contemplate the Martyrdom of Perpetua and Felicitas.
