STRING INSTRUCTION: BEGINNER I (CP289)

CP – Performing Arts Participation

Required text: Please obtain the Essential Elements for Strings, Robert Gillespie et al for your relevant instrument (Violin ISBN 9798350120745, Viola ISBN 9798350120752, Cello ISBN 9798350120769, String Bass ISBN 9798350120776.) Beginning Strings 1 is a course designed for those wishing to learn to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass. This is not a performing group, it is a class, and students are not asked to “solo” in class. This course is appropriate for absolute or near-absolute beginners and for those whose previous lessons were relatively brief and/or decades ago. Often more experienced players take this course as a refresher course. All are welcome! Students must be equipped with their own instrument.

VAN VALKENBURG, CARL — After retiring in 2016 from a 44-year career as a public school orchestra director, moved to Delaware with wife, Jane, to be closer to family. Plays violin and viola in various Delaware music ensembles. Holds bachelor and master of music degrees from University of Michigan.
