GREAT LOVE STORIES IN THE OPERAS OF RICHARD WAGNER (CA368)

CA – Performing Arts Appreciation

This is a hybrid course. One section meets on site at the location listed; and one section meets online only.

There are three Wagner operas that meet this course’s objective. One investigates the love of country; the second, spiritual love; and the third, passionate love. These operas are indeed intense! They are also long but I will try to preserve as much discussion time as possible. The performances I have selected are among the most powerful available.

This offering meets for a total of 13 session(s).

INSTRUCTOR: Robert Violette

VIOLETTE, ROBERT — Has enjoyed a life of singing the leading roles in the operas of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Strauss and Wagner, as well as some contemporary composers. Each composer taught him how to listen, understand and appreciate their own language.
