SEEING OUR FUTURE THROUGH 19TH CENTURY BRITISH LITERATURE (H375)

H – Literature

Required text: Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley (all other texts provided). Join me as we enjoy some of the greatest literature of the English language with an eye to seeing its effect on culture today. So many master works and styles come from the 19th century: Romanticism, Impressionism, the Golden Age of the novel. Many of the themes and issues we consider modern were first expressed in the 19th century. We read a mix of poetry, fiction (one novel), some nonfiction and a drama. All texts provided except for Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley.

HEALEY, LESLIE — M.A., Case Western Reserve University; B.A., University of Delaware. Retired English teacher (high school, college, middle school); still reads too much, and enjoys sharing great literature with others. Special interests include fiction, British literature, speculative fiction and modern lit/art.
