EVOLUTION OF WALKING (P287)

P – Life Sciences

In this course we review the uniquely human anatomy related to walking. We explore the evolutionary questions of when and why our ancestors became two-legged walkers, followed by the consequences of this adaptation for our modern-day risks of injury such as lower back pain, knee problems, and more. Finally, we’ll talk about the value of walking for our health and well-being. The class combines lecture, hands-on learning, video clips, discussion and walking practice, as ability permits.

I have lifelong interests in evolutionary biology, paleoanthropology and primates; now exploring Buddhist teachings. Mother of two lovely girls and married to an amazing jazz enthusiast.
