This is a hybrid course. One section meets on site at the location listed; and one section meets online only.An intriguing fly-by of the foundational civilizations, in this course we will examine the basic institutions, how they interacted with each other, their use of the military and weaponry, religious beliefs and sciences. Mesopotamia; Egypt; Harappan India; Xia, Shang, and Zhou China; Olmec and other civilizations with be covered. How did these civilizations influence our own? Join us and find out!

SHOEMAKER, SUSAN — B.A., St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana; M.Ed., North Carolina State University; M.A., Ph.D., University of Delaware. Extensive teaching experience at UD and regional colleges. Former member and chair of Delaware Humanities Council. Interests include music, history, literature, arts and sciences.
