This class offers a survey of Irish history, starting with the subjugation of Ireland under Cromwell and William of Orange, begun under the Tudors and early Stuarts. Incorporation into the United Kingdom is followed by a long struggle for autonomy and political and cultural independence. Finally, part of Ireland becomes an independent republic, Troubles continue in Northern Ireland ending with a shaky peace. The Republic becomes a prosperous member of the European Union.
