Hearing loss is a part of life for many of us as we age. But how many of us have really thought about hearing loss? Understanding the science behind the problem can give you better insight into your individual loss. Increased knowledge can also help you utilize assistive devices such as hearing aids and cochlear implants more effectively. In addition to the physical problem of diminished hearing there are social and psychological impacts on quality of life. We will discuss some of these problems and offer suggestions and strategies for overcoming some of the more common issues.

KELLY, THOMAS—Degrees in U.S. history and public history from the University of Houston. Retired to Delaware after teaching U.S. history for almost 20 years at Lone Star College outside of Houston, Texas.
